Library Board
City of Airdrie Library Board
The Library Board is a dedicated group of volunteers who oversee governance of the Airdrie Public Library. Established under the Libraries Act, the Board plays a vital role in ensuring the Library serves the needs of our diverse community.
Board Composition
The Library Board is comprised of up to ten members including up to eight citizen appointees and up to two members of Airdrie City Council. Members are appointed by the City of Airdrie for up to a three-year term, with the possibility of serving up to three terms.
Board Responsibilities
The Library Board serves as the governing body for the Airdrie Public Library. Their key responsibilities include:
- Financial Oversight: The Board ensures the Library’s financial health through responsible stewardship of its budget.
- Governance: The Board establishes policies and bylaws that guide the Library’s operations and service delivery.
- Advocacy: The Board champions the importance of libraries within the community and acts as a voice for library users.
Public Engagement
The Library Board actively seeks community input through the development of a comprehensive Plan of Service. This plan ensures the Library’s offering align with the needs and interests of Airdrie residents.
Meetings
The Library Board holds monthly meetings, open to the pubic, on the last Thursday of each month (excluding July and December) at 6:30 PM in the Vincent Room at Airdrie City Hall. Additionally, Board members serve on the following committees:
- Governance
- Finance
- HR
- Fundraising
Board members are expected to support the Library through participation in events and fundraisers, and to be an active advocate and ambassador for the mission, vision, and values of the Library.
