The Second Voices Project is a series of Holocaust survivor testimonials by second and third generation descendants of Holocaust survivors. With help from a generous grant from The Government of Alberta, Calgary Jewish Federation has created multi-media presentations whereby children and grandchildren bring their parents’ or grandparents’ survivor testimony to life.
Attendees learn the history of the Holocaust through a survivor’s story while absorbing valuable lessons about human rights, tolerance, and the dangers of hatred.
Hear the story of Holocaust Survivor Eva Davis and her granddaughter Laura.
From 11 months of slave labour at Auschwitz, Ravensbruck, and Beendorf to Calgary, hear the story of Eva Davis. A naturally gifted soprano who was commanded to perform at a Christmas party for Nazi officers. Liberated a few months before the war ended, hear the full story of how Eva Davis, despite the horrors of the Holocaust, never allowed herself to hate, instead touching everyone with her warm smile, kindness and zest for life. A loving grandmother of five and great-grandmother of nine, she found joy in simple acts like sitting in the sunshine, having been deprived of so much daylight during the war. Eva lived her life with courage, love and song.
